Background: Coloerectal cancer is increasingin Korea and westernized dietary factors are suggested as its causes. In this study, we tried to determine the dietary risk factors in colorecatal adenoma which is known as a precursor of colorectal cancer.
Methods: 2531 subjects who visited Health Promotion Ceneter in Seoul National university Hospital from January 2003 to October 2003 filled Self-administered questionnaire and got sigmoidoscopy as a cancer screening.
Results: Among the 2531 cases, the prevalence of colorectal polyps was 16.1%. After adjusting for age, sex, smoking, drinking and BMI, using multiple logistic regression, the odds ratio of the subject who intake vegetable and fruit less than 4times a week compared with the subject who intake dietary fiber more than 5 times a week was 1.293(95% CI: 1.005-1.667).
Conclusions: Infrequent vegetable and fruit consumption increases colorectal polyps.
